Dr. Gooch

Dr. Gooch visited Dr. Robert Winston in Jackson, Tennessee prior to completing his residency program in St. Louis. Dr. Winston had begun his practice in medicine months earlier. It was then that he was encouraged by Dr. Winston to practice in Jackson. His practice in OB/GYN took off immediately. “I was busy from the first day,” Dr. Gooch states. He worked as a solo practitioner for 17 years. Dr. Gooch then established Jackson OB/GYN Associates, P.C. in 1997. After which, in 1998, he added a partner to his practice and another in 2005. He was the fourth African American physician to begin a practice in medicine, and the first African-American physician to perform surgery at either hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

He met his wife, Deborah and married in 1985. He has two daughters, Brittany and Amber.

In his practice, Dr. Gooch emphasizes the importance of good prenatal care, preventative health practices, and patient education. As an obstetrician and gynecologist, he has cared and managed for more than 30,000 patients during his tenure. He has also employed and managed as many as 23 employees for Jackson OB/GYN Associates, P.C.

He was selected and received recognition as Minority Entrepreneur of the Year by the Jackson Chamber of Commerce in 1993. He is a member of the American Medical Association, National Medical Association, M.V. Lynk Medical Society, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the 100 Black Men of America, and serves on the Lane College Board of Trustees.

When Dr. Gooch is not seeing patients, he relaxes and gets enjoyment from working in his yard.
